Ford Otosan participated in the EMEA Automotive Decarbonization Summit 2025, a major international gathering of industry leaders, policymakers, and technical experts focused on accelerating the transition to a carbon-neutral automotive sector. This summit aims to foster cross-sector dialogue, promote actionable collaboration, and accelerate the transition to zero-emission transportation, thereby fueling sustainable development worldwide.

Ayşemin Top, Technical Leader for Sustainable Material Applications at Ford Otosan, delivered a presentation titled: “The Automotive Decarbonization Roadmap: Product Sustainability, Circular Economy, and R&D Innovations for a Carbon-Neutral Future.”

The session highlighted Ford Otosan’s strategic approach to reducing lifecycle emissions, integrating circularity into product design, and advancing research and innovation that support long-term decarbonisation across the automotive value chain.

Showcasing the EcoPlast Project

As part of the presentation, Ford Otosan also showcased the EcoPlast Project—a Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to empowering circular operations in the automotive plastics value chain.

EcoPlast aims to improve the quality, durability, and safety of secondary plastics used in new automotive components, while significantly increasing recycling, recovery, and upcycling rates. The project brings together 18 partners from 3 countries and focuses on delivering high-impact solutions across design, recycling technologies, and digital integration.

Key EcoPlast themes presented at the summit included:

  • Advanced recycling technologies, including solvent-based and enzymatic processes
  • Integrated AI-enabled sorting, combining digital product passports, spectroscopy, and imaging
  • Material innovation, with new recycled and bio-based plastic formulations
  • Digital tools, such as blockchain-based DPP frameworks, digital twins, collaborative platforms, and AI models
  • Industrial demonstrations targeting increased sorting efficiency, higher recycling rates, and greater uptake of secondary and renewable materials
These innovations aim to create a more circular and resource-efficient plastics ecosystem, supporting the broader decarbonisation goals of Europe’s mobility sector.

Ford Otosan’s Role in EcoPlast

Ford Otosan contributes to several key activities within EcoPlast, including:

  • As part of “Design for circularity and advanced recycling/upcycling of automotive plastic”:
    • Participating in integrating advanced sorting technology, combining AI, DPP, spectroscopy and imaging alongside consortium partners
    • Supporting research into solution-based purification (SBP) recycling
  • As part of “Industrial demonstration”:
    • Contributing to industrial-scale demonstrations of improved recycling rates and the adoption of secondary materials
    • Acting as an OEM end-user, providing real-world validation for the project’s innovations
Through its involvement in EcoPlast, Ford Otosan continues to strengthen its commitment to circularity, sustainable materials, and low-carbon innovation across the automotive industry.
